KING OF JUNK PHOTO SERIES BY VISUAL ARTIST MARPLONDON
by Rachel Oakley in New Photography on Thursday 9 January 2014.
According to visual artist Marplondon, ‘everyone shares the same bottomless fascination of anything sugar-coated’ or bought from a fast food outlet. Meaning, it gives them status and makes them feel like royalty, but in reality, says Marplondon, they are ‘junkies of modern consumption and self-imagery.
’Using hip hop as a style reference, Marplondon celebrates status, rank order and investigates how all of this ‘glorifies bling and big ego, while at the same time claiming to be rebellious.’
Marplondon (Marianne) is a visual artist based in London, using photography as the main medium for her artwork in ‘exploring its boundaries in a quest for beauty and expression.’
